Friday night we went to a friends birthday dinner followed by a "drive by" at Pink Elephant. We met lots of cute girls for Bobby's son and his friends, danced, and then departed. Saturday, Bobby and I went to opening day of Polo in Bridgehampton and I took Sarah Erhrlich with me to hand out invitations for our 2nd Annual Help for Orphans Benefit this Friday, July 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Nova's Ark. (To buy tickets go to hamptonsbenefit.com. Prices are $150 in advance and $200 at the door). There will be cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and a wonderful Art Auction and Silent Auction. We are raising money to build a vocational school in Kenya for a village that Sarah has been helping for two years. Last year we raised enough money to build a 10-room schoolhouse that will break ground this August.
Saturday night, Bobby and I went to Russell Simmons’ charity event, Art for Life. The decor was outstanding with people dressed as trees and plants and the dress code was purple. Thank goodness I had something in my closet. I try to respect dress codes when people go to the effort to design the decor around it. The highlight for me was sitting in the Maybach that was on display. I love that car!! So, who was there? We met Governor Paterson (New York's new Governor!) and I was so impressed. He was funny, warm, and approachable, not your typical politician with the standard one-liners and classic lines you would expect. He shared stories with us and would have told more but they pulled him away to sit down for the start of the program. I met Gayle King, saw P. Diddy and his mom who is always charming, Al Roker, and Aretha Franklin (we waited until the program ended hoping she would surprise the audience and sing but no such luck). My friend Marilyn Crawford was there too so we had a chance to catch up.
Though we had a few offers for more parties on the beach Sunday, we chose to BBQ at home with the family and do the midnight run back to the city.
Every year, Bobby and I open our home to our family and friends ( and sometimes party crashers!) on July 4th. Last year was a total wash out. It didn't just pour, it was like a hurricane with wind! This year was close. It was overcast all day. We were setting it up outside, knowing we might have to move it inside on a moments notice. We got lucky. It didn't rain and only drissled for a few minutes around 10PM. To be safe, we served desert inside by the door so people could eat and run with a goody bag from Zarin Fabrics. I was able to get some great things for the bag including Vava Water, Blue Star Jets and gift card,my smartpac( amazing travel kit for one week), Oloff Beauty skin care and Barex hair care products. In addition to the delicious food from Creative Cuisine of New Hyde Park, we had an amazing DJ with 50 foot screen showing pictures of people entering the party. The best part was that both of our families were together and thats what counts the most.
Earlier in the week my dearest friend also named Jill, came to visit with her 2 children. This was there first visit to our house and I was so happy they came. Bethenny was also a houseguest this week so we were one big happy family! I love to entertain and we were definitely maxed out with 20 people sleeping here last week. Saturday night I met up with some of the housewives at the Social Life party. We only stayed an hour ( it was very crowded and the police broke up the party) adn picked Ally up and came home.
Yesterday was a very tearful day for me. I dropped Ally of at JFK to leave for Europe for the summer. She will be studying there and know she will have an experience of a lifetime but I feel a sense of loss. I know she needs to grow up and leave the nest, but will i ever be ready for that?
Finally the summer is here! Do you feel it in the air? The warmth and humidity. Personally I love it! I am always freezing and Bobby always warm so he is not happy! However..the stores and restaurants pump up the AC so much that I always carry a sweater with me. Crazy?
So have you been waiting to hear who my special guests were? Governor Charlie Crist and my close girlfriend Carole Rome with her family. Many know already that we are friends and the Governor was in town to speak at an event in Bridgehampton last weekend. Charlie has some minor knee surgury and was such a sport on his crutches. But he was not alone. I tripped over a phone cord in the den and might have broken my toe. I have not worn heels since then and can only wear flats or sneakers. I am not a happy camper to say the least. So the two of us were quite a pair limping around. We gave them thier privacy and hope they will visit again soon. Saturday afternoon Bobby and I with my stepson, wife and baby went to the Landrover Event in Watermill. Wow did they pull out all the stops. A beutiful house with food and beverages greated you. We all registered and drove a Landrover through a custom built off road course not for the faint of heart. It was quite scary letting go of the break and gas pedal and stearing down a 45 degree angle road. But we all survived and were very impressed. When we left we were presented with a photo album with our picture already in it. Now that was class. On Sunday we were invited on our friends boat and spent the day with friends off Gardner's Island. The perfect ending to a perfect weekend.
This past weekend Bethenny and Brad stayed with us and we went to the Denim and Diamonds Event for The National Cancer Society hosted by my favorite MC Gina Glickman honoring our favorite Countess....Countess Luann DeLesseps. Bobby and I met Kesley and Camille Grammer and they were so down to earth. Sunday morning I shlepped to Laguardia to pick up my parents. On the way back to the house we stopped at my cousin Dr. Dave's ( Dr. David Zaret) house to look at my toe. He is the best orthopedic ankle foot specialist that I know if ( he really is even if he is my cousin) and without an xray..thinks it might be broken but there is nothing to do but wait for it to heel ( no pun intended). I am so excited my parents are here and this time they are staying for a while. Allyson is still here and we have been spending quality time together ( in between the madness) and of course Ginger loves the backyard.
I had a few this trip. I could not find my phone in the car late in the night...looking and looking...then the phone rings! and it is on the floor! If it did not ring..I would not have even looked where it was! It was late and my phone was not on the entire week until late that day. Not a huge one..but still..
THOUGH I HAVEN’T WRITTEN IN A WHILE..MY MIRACLES CONTINUE TO AMAZE ME...
SO..TO GIVE A FEW RECENT ONES..
LAST NIGHT..WE HAD DINNER WITH DAVID, JILL, BRAD, BOBBY , BETHENNY AND HER NEW ASSISTANT MOLLY. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT DIFFERENT THINGS AND I CASUALLY ASK HER WHERE SHE LIVES. SHE TELLS ME ON THE LOWER EAST SIDE. I ASKED STREET THEN ADDRESS..GUESS WHAT? SHE IS A TENANT IN ONE OF BOBBY’S BUILDINGS....CRAZY RIGHT??
NEW YEARS EVE...I WON $25,000 FOR SOMEONE FROM NJ. HE OFFERED ME HALF BUT I DECLINED WHEN I FOUND OUT HE HAD A 25K MARKER AT THE HOTEL( I HIT A SLOT MACHINE..A $5.00 SLOT!). I TOLD HIM TO BUY HIS WIFE SOMETHING AMAZING. HE DID GIVE ME 1400. THEN..I RAN INTO HIM ON THE PLANE GOING BACK TO NY. HE PRACTICALLY IGNORED ME. I FELT SO WIERD. HERE, I THOUGHT I SAVED HIS LIFE AND PROBABLY MARRIAGE AND HE DISSED ME. WELL..I WAS IN FIRST CLASS AND HE WAS IN COACH. HA! SO..SHOULD I HAVE TAKEN 1/2 THE MONEY?
I haven’t had a crazy miracle lately until yesterday. bobby and I were walking outside our apartment and he commented how many people were talking on their cell phones. Then he pointed out a lonely old fashioned street telephone. 2 hours later..we were walking passed the SAME phone and it was on the ground as if pushed over. there were orange cones all around it. Is that crazy or what!!!!
Here is another one...Bobby and I went to Nellos for a launch party for a charity we work with. Recently, I have been eyeing a watch, Degrisonio, that I want for our anniversary. They have one store in the US on Madison and 69th. I figured we could see if the store is open “since we are there anyway?†so we drive up Madison. ALL the stores are closed. As we are about to turn home, we notice the lights on with a red carpet and people! THEY WERE OPEN FOR ME! But the miracle does NOT stop here! We run into Donna and talk for a while. As we are saying goodbye she says †see you tomorrow†I say tomorrow? your luncheon is Wednesday! She says†Jill, it is Dec 5th!
So....first of all, we should not have been there since we were not invited( we crashed to see the watch..which by the way..Bobby loved), but we ran into Donna..who casually said see you tomorrow. I would have shown up at Le Cirque Wednesday all dressed up with NO ONE THERE. Is this a miracle? PLEASE comment?
Today, I ran into a friend of mine at Citerella, a local gourmet food shop. After catching up...I remembered I had grabbed a red candle from our store before I left and threw it in my bag. For some reason, I decided to give it to Mitchell as a small gift. He told me he had just came back from Ricky’s and could not find a red candle to use for dinner tonight. Was that a miracle? Please let me know if you had a miracle happen to you today!
