Jill Zarin Episode 8 Extended Blog

I want to start by thanking all of you for your kind support of my step daughter Jennifer Zarin, following last weeks episode. Please "Like" The Birthmark Project on Facebook. She is really connecting to so many of you who have shared your own "Birthmark" stories. After spending a busy week getting Ally ready for her Summer vacation and getting Bobby and I ready to go to the Hamptons, watching myself and the other ladies in Morocco seems like such a long time ago. But I will tell you, it was the "trip of a lifetime" in so many ways. The Riad we stayed in was absolutely fabulous. Kelly was right when she said it was "warm and luminous." I should have realized it was a sign of things to come when the blondes and the brunettes arrived separately. Did you notice the difference in the two arrivals? When Cindy, Luann, Kelly and I arrived, we were happy, excited and extremely impressed with our surroundings. But in watching the blondes arrive all I heard was a lot of criticism and complaining, mainly by Ramona. Alex seemed humiliated by some of the things she said regarding the poverty and the people. I felt so sorry for the driver who had to listen. One wonders where the term " Ugly American" comes from. Why would Ramona think Luann of all people would ever get us a house that wasn't 5 star magnificent? How funny or ridiculous was it (depending upon how you look at it) that Ramona emailed Luann a list of "needs" that included sheets, hand weights and Pinot Grigio? Don't they have wine in Morocco? I am still not sure whose trip it was. It seemed to me Luann did all the planning, at least that is what I saw when we got there, but Ramona has said Sonja planned it too. If so, why complain to Luann? You have Sonja to get your "list" filled. I have hosted more guests than I can count over the last 20 years in my vacation homes and NO ONE ever asked me for 600 count sheets, down pillows and free weights (5 pounds each). Even Andy Cohen couldn't believe the "rider" that Ramona demanded before she would go on the trip. The crew all snuck in bottles of Pinot. I couldn't believe it when I heard it. I knew it wouldn't be long for the first bit of drama and it wasn't. Someone took Cindy's hangers. It may sound funny but Cindy was more angry at the pettiness of it than anything else. But what I truly love about Cindy is how quickly she is to confront such behavior. When she heard the girls talking about her she was on it in a flash. Watching it back, I am still surprised at just how separate the blondes chose to stay on the trip. I felt bad for Luann. She tried so hard to make it a happy, bonding trip for all of us. What I don't understand is that with all of the complaining about what Morocco looked like, why were they so quick to get out of the house? We all waited for them to arrive so we could have lunch together. Sonja told me they were going to get their hair. Why did they lie? If they were going to a famous hotel, why wouldn't they share that with us and invite us too? We wanted to see the hotel also but waited for them to arrive. They drew a line in the sand the minute they got there. This was supposed to be a friends trip to be together. We didn't need to be attached at the hip but it wasn't nice and not a good way to start the trip by separating from the group. The cameras were not allowed at the hotel and they knew it. Production was really angry that they just took a car and left. I would have left earlier to go shopping instead of waiting for them if I had known. We had an incredible time shopping. The clothes, jewelry, everything was so unique. I had told Brad that we were going to be in Morocco and I was excited that he would be there while we were. It was very generous of him to invite us all to a party. I felt bad about what I said. I love Brad but he does exaggerate and I admit it gets to me sometimes. We all wanted a tour and if he just told me he couldn't because it was a bed and breakfast it would have been fine. Instead he said everyone was sleeping. It was no big deal and I adore him. He can't stand Ramona and it was nice of him to let me bring her. He has told me some of the things she has done to him, things would make your skin crawl. The fortune teller was incredible. She told me my mom is always with me and that I had a hard year last year and it would be a better year this year. She said I should keep doing what I am doing and that my weakness is my big heart. I cried. Everyone else (except Ramona) thought she was right on. It was eerie. When she spoke to Ramona, the mood changed immediately. Watch next week to see more on that. Ramona doesn't know anything about Bobby and my business. We have owned all the cars we have. Bobby has had over 10 Ferrari's including the yellow one that was seen on the show a few seasons ago. We have never denied selling our house or lied about renting it back from the owner, which by the way, we sold at the top of the market when we realized that we never use it in the winter. In fact, recently Ramona told me she thought we were so smart and that they should sell their house since they rarely use it in the winter. Ramona has had her house up for sale, although it didn't sell and rents out her house during the summer and stays with different friends. I didn't exaggerate anything and and don't appreciate the dig. Trust me, this is just the beginning of the Moroccan drama. Wait until you see the next two weeks! Until then, have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.  You can find Skweez Couture on Facebook and @SkweezCouture on Twitter. Skweez Couture Shapewear, leggings and hosiery will be out this Fall at Lord and Taylor and Macy's. More announcements to come! Jill Zarin Episode 7 Extended Blog

Hi everyone! I have been busy this week working on the new packaging for my Skweez Couture Shapewear, Hosiery and Legging line. I haven't done this in a while so it was harder than I remember! I can't wait for you to see it. Please follow me on twitter @skweezcouture and Facebook SKWEEZ COUTURE for updates. Secrets Of A Jewish Mother is now out in paperback and has an added chapter on bullying that my mom, Gloria has many words of advice to share. Autographed copies are available at zarinfabrics.com Jill Zarin bedding is available at bedbathandbeyond.com I loved seeing Luann and Sonja have a lunch that wasn't about bashing anyone, just working together to plan a fabulous trip to Morocco. I had heard so much about it and seeing that I am finally kid free, I was able to leave home for a week with my girlfriends. I know how many children we have among us and how hard it is for everyone to leave their lives, so to say "trip of a lifetime" is an understatement. I rarely leave Bobby for even one night, unless I am visiting my parents. When I asked him if he would mind if I went without him, he didn't try to control me and make me feel guilty. Hearing Ramona say they don't respect women in Morocco made me cringe. Morocco is not Iran or Saudi Arabia. Her ignorance is no longer a viable excuse. Wait until you see what happens when we actually get there! It was interesting seeing Luann and Ramona have lunch together. They never have lunch together unless there are cameras in the room. I am so grateful that Luann tried to stick up for me. Ramona is a hypocrite. She says "talking behind people's back" as if she doesn't? The entire show is about us living our lives and then talking to the camera and sharing our real feelings. Is that gossip or a TV show? Ramona has said horrible things behind my back too. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. At least I own it. She admits to putting her foot in her mouth and her opening line says it all, "If people can't handle the truth, it's really not my problem." When Ramona said she didn't have a problem with anyone I almost threw up. When talking about Cindy she said "I don't have a problem with her"! No of course you don't Ramona. You just say and do whatever you want. Then when she doesn't like the reaction? She attacks. She should realize that her actions cause reactions. Ramona has a pattern of doing this to all of us at one time or another. Ramona likes to pick fights out of nowhere. Why did she attack me at her party in front of her guests? Was time of the essence? Why wouldn't she let Jennifer tell me to my face what she told Ramona? I'll tell you why. It was because she knew that they set me up and Jennifer could lie behind my back but not lie to my face. She talks out of both sides of her mouth. First she tells Luann "I don't want to talk behind Jill's back" but then she talks behind MY BACK with Jennifer. Hypocrite? Ramona said she would talk to me before our trip. I did tell Luann I didn't want to go anywhere with anyone without resolving past issues and starting with a clean slate. I felt really good that I had made up with Alex. We agreed that anything we did or said about each other before that day we would forgive and start over. I can honestly say that I have tried to get along with Alex and not have any conflicts. Car ride to Spa: finally, I am in my comfort zone with real friends who respect each other and I'm not worried that there would be a knife in my back when I woke up. We all have our little quirks and they get amplified when you are on a trip together. This was a good test to see if we could all get along for 7 days in Morocco. I thought we should take the blondes as a trial run since Kelly didn't want to even be in a room with Ramona. Cindy's brother was still reeling from Ramona attacking him at her party and of course there was Ramona's unprovoked attack on me at her party. In the car, Kelly shared with Luann about her past relationships. Cindy and I were in the backseat and couldn't hear them. I felt terrible that I couldn't comfort her too. The only bad thing about that day, was the car ride from hell! What should have been a three hour ride took six hours. The driver went the wrong way. It was a nightmare. We had such a good time..I wish we could have stayed a week. The game we played was actually one my sister, Lisa Wexler made up when we took a family girls trip to TURKS a few years ago. It was so much fun. I also had received a package of Skweez Couture hosiery before we left for the ladies to try. Thigh highs, corsets and leggings. They all tried them on and modeled them around the room. It was such a great scene, I felt badly they cut it. Oh well. Thank you to Teri Jon (Ricky Freeman) for hosting my first annual Anti-Bullying Charity Event. You have a huge heart and you are an amazing designer. Also, Christina DeSimone, my dear friend. Christina started People Reaching Out, appropriately named to raise money for various charities. I asked her to help me with this event. It is so much work and I couldn't do it without her. When I heard Luann tell Ramona how rude she is to block her from a designer I laughed. Ramona did the same to me! I asked Teri Jon to lend clothes to all the ladies. I don't remember Ramona telling me she wouldn't accept it since she doesn't want to wear the same designers as me. I will be sure to tell all my favorite designers to extend her the same kindness. Alex was very nice a few years ago to share one of her contacts and I am always happy to share mine. I was so happy my mom, Aunt Cookie, my sister Lisa and Allyson came to support me that day. My very special step daughter, Jennifer Zarin, made me so proud. Jennifer has her masters degree and is a Life Coach. She started a Facebook page called The Birthmark Project. I hope people who connected to Jennifer and to what we are trying to do will LIKE her page. You can contact Jennifer through Facebook. I was so overwhelmed after her speech. When Ramona came over to me and said "you didn't notice her face is deformed," I didn't even know what to say. Now I know why Kelly won't let her around her children. Can you imagine if Jennifer heard that? (Of course she did now) I am embarrassed by her behavior. My mother always told me you become more of who you are when you get older. Ramona is getting more "Rameana" every week. I need to address the Darren/Ramona wine issue. It really was like a game of Telephone. I told Darren to do something. He may not have done exactly what I asked and we got a different result. As far as I knew, I asked my assistant to get auction items. I told Darren to contact all the girls to see if they wanted to promote their products. The caterer ordered colorful martinis (which we paid for!) but most of the guests drank soft drinks and water since it was 11AM when it began. If we needed wine for the party, we would have asked for 10 cases for 200 people (30 bottles to fill glasses on the table and have a one glass refill). I would have sent a car service to pick it up as I picked up all of the other fabulous donations including the four night stay at Canyon Ranch, ReVive Skin Care and bedding from Zarin Fabrics. Obviously there was a misunderstanding. I asked the girls to donate something so I could promote their brand. I knew Ramona's wine was coming out this spring and we called her to give her a platform to promote it on the TV SHOW. That is what friends do. Friends show up at their events, which I did weeks before, and have them put their products in goodie bags or silent auction (did you hear me mention Luann's CD on the show?) Rather than waste it filling glasses, since many guests weren't drinking alcohol, I asked her to set it up on the silent auction table. Either way, once I asked her not to serve it she should have said "fine". Darren was wrong. I told her that. She went behind my back and did what she wanted anyway. The caterer was upset. They didn't have enough wine glasses and were serving out of martini glasses. I have always supported the ladies any way I can. If one of us has success, we all succeed. I have gone to more book signings and product launches than I can remember. In fact, Bobby and I were the only ones at Ramona's wine event last week on the Upper East Side. Alex had just left but no one else came. I was there. I am always there. Ramona and I have a complicated friendship and if things fester too long it gets worse. WE need to resolve this. I don't hate Ramona. I just hate some of the things she says or does to hurt me or people I love. I was grateful she brought the case but instead of ending up in the silent auction the bottles started to disappear and only to her table. No one else was drinking the wine. I think that she brought the wine as her own stash, for her and her few friends at her table. Either way there was a breakdown in communication from what I asked my assistant to do and what he told Ramona, and what she brought to the party. Like the game Telephone. The most embarrassing moment was when she was caught by the Teri Jon employees re-corking the open bottles to take home with her. Why did she do that? Gross? It's just vulgar to donate wine, drink half, re-cork and take back home. I have to say Ramona and I have always had a strange relationship but something always keeps us connected. This too shall pass...I hope. Next week, Morocco! Love, Jill XO

Jill Zarin Episode 6 Extended Blog

Episode 6...here we go!
Cindy invited me over to see her apartment for us get to know each other. After all, we are going to spending a lot of time together! I knew she was friends with Ramona so I was a little nervous but I knew when I first met her she was my kind of girl. We both come from Long Island, both Jewish, and we are the same age.
I had just come back from Australia and was really shocked at the stories everyone told me when I came home. No wonder soap operas are being replaced by reality shows. You couldn't make this stuff up.
When Cindy said "Ramona's core is not good" it validated a lot of the feelings I have had over the years. We have a lot of friends in common. Cindy said "we have our ups and lows" (she meant downs) but we accept Ramona for who she is. What the heck does that mean? Why would anyone accept someone who makes so many condescending remarks and offers little respect to anyone? Cindy said "her core is not good." Is she right? I always try to find the good in people. I let a lot of things go with regards to Ramona and years have passed. Maybe it's time to take a serious look at our friendship. Ramona invited us to a wine tasting party this week. Even though Bobby had to come home from work a little early to make it, we showed up. Am a just a glutton for punishment?
Side comment..how cute are Cindy's little girls? I am available for babysitting!
Chris March, from Project Runway, totally outdid himself. He is so talented. Chris call me!
I have been to the costume store shown in the episode many times for many costumes but NOT the one I wore on Halloween two years ago on the show. I paid under $100 for the entire costume from FRANCO. (available at Halloween stores) If I rented something at this costume rental place it would have been around $350. I was really sick that day but didn't want to disappoint Sonja. I was on cold medicine so I was acting very silly! We tried on so many costumes, I was exhausted. Luann looks so beautiful in everything but the Scarlett O'Hara costume was perfect.
Meeting Cindy's ex boyfriend/baby daddy for the first time was interesting. I don't know what I expected but I wouldn't have picked him out of the "lineup." I see Cindy with a wall street banker (yin and yang theory). One thing I do know? These babies were the most wanted children in the world. Even though her situation is not traditional, if it works for Cindy, I am happy.
When Sonja is getting ready for the party, we hear her talking about her divorce putting stress on her financially. This is a premonition of what will come. When Sonja said "I don't have a man around the house", I wanted to add she has many and they are all so cute! I loved the car she was in! How fun would it be to be driven around in that all day!
Cipriani is a fabulous event space in NYC that is often used for charity events. They also have an exclusive wine cellar that I had heard about and was very excited. Sonja talks about her fabulous parties and when she said it was a masquerade ball I imagined a long table with waiters behind each chair lifting a silver plate cover at the same time. I actually went to one of those at MOMA last year and had created a fantasy in my head. Bobby and I brought three friends. Two were potential dates for Kelly. Ryan is the gorgeous one in the mask when I walk in. (I know, hard to tell with mask on!) A little inside info? Ryan is staring on Bravo's NYC version of Million Dollar Listing!
Ramona was a little "tweaked" when she arrived. Everyone really went all out with their costumes. I have to admit I was a little disappointed. I expected this elaborate dinner and all we were offered were hors d'oeuvre and drinks. Where was dinner? I told Bobby not to eat lunch because we were going to a big fancy party. Maybe it should have been called a masquerade cocktail party instead of a ball.
When Sonja bent down and I saw her tushie...I died! I immediately put my hand over it. My first reaction was she honestly left it at home. I asked Kelly and Cindy and they both thought she did it on purpose. I said no way! She would never want to show it on TV. never! Then when I saw this episode, did she say she left it home on purpose?
Alex and I were in a good place that night. Though we aren't meant to be the best of friends, I am still hopeful we can all get along.
Going with Cindy to the dentist was one of my favorite scenes ever! In our book Secrets Of A Jewish Mother we have an entire chapter dedicated to Beauty and Health. We give advice on how to find everything like the best Doctor to the dreaded word "exercise"!
Was the scene with Jennifer and Ramona staged? Ramona looked so shocked by the words the bride was saying as if they hadn't discussed it a thousand times. They both make me sick. I thought the bride and I were friends. After all, she asked me to recommend her to be a Housewife and get an audition which I did. I never thought in a million years the two of them would set me up. Ramona did it last year with Bethenny at her house and now with Alex at the wedding. Different circumstances but the same goal. To catch me off guard, press my buttons and get a reaction. Then when she gets a reaction, she blames and criticizes me for reacting. She openly admitted to enjoying doing this to me the morning of the wedding in episode one. Why didn't Jennifer tell me in advance that she invited Alex? She knew how I felt about her at the time and it should have been my decision if I wanted to go. Jennifer has told mutual friends that she felt used by Ramona. People left early and couldn't believe they weren't told there would be a film crew there. It didn't say anything on the invitation. People had to hide away from the eight cameras all over the yard. The music had to be turned off or worse, play Bravo house music due to clearance issues. It was embarrassing. I kept apologizing to people as if I brought the cameras. I didn't. Ramona did. Remember at Ramona's house she said "why tell Jill? That would ruin the fun?" So why is she so surprised if I was mad at Jennifer?
I had just came back from Australia and the party was my first time seeing Ramona since the wedding. My friend Vince drove me and I came to support Ramona as I always have in the past. I was having a nice conversation with some of the guests when Ramona had to pull me away and attack me. The bride was across the room. Again, Ramona is mad at me over something someone else said I said. I said, "bring her over"! I had NOTHING to hide. Whatever I said I meant. Details not important. He said, she said, all I know is Ramona invited me to her party to make a scene so her party wouldn't get cut from editing. That's how it works. If you have a lot of housewives and fight at your party, it is a virtual guarantee to make final editing. I showed up to Ramona's party to help her and once again, she uses me. But this time, I was calm. She was wired and acting insane. Everyone had been talking about her attacking Howie at Cindy's Birthday party and a lot of other things regarding Ramona.
Ramona refused to bring Jennifer over to talk to me to my face but she didn't expect me to see her on the way out. I spoke to Jennifer and it is what it is. We both remember it differently and will never agree as to what happened. But Ramona? She says I should talk to her face, I say "fine lets have lunch" and she says " I'll think about it"? She didn't expect me to be so calm. She thought if she pushed my buttons again I would react. I have changed. I listened to her "complaints" and offered to meet her alone for lunch to talk about it. I asked her a few times for lunch and and you will see what happens.
By the time she "balled me out" and embarrassed herself in front of all her guests, I was really hurt. I realized once again that no matter how hard I try to "show up" and be supportive for certain people, it will never be enough. If I was really bad mouthing her behind her back for years do you think it would have taken her this long to confront me? Are you kidding. Ramona has no self control and even if she wanted to hold it in, she couldn't. Ramona is a drama queen. He said, she said. Enough said.
I think I will take my toys and go home.

Love,
Jill XO
