45 Life Lessons from a 90 Year old Woman

This is something we should all read at least once a week!!!!! Make sure you read to the end!!!!!!

Written by Regina Brett, 90 years old, of the Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio .

"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I've ever written.

My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first pay check.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42. The best is yet to come...

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

Jill Zarin Episode 13 Exclusive Extended Blog

I thought I would be lounging in the Hamptons this June. Boy was I wrong! I have had to come back to the city every week and this week was no exception. I think it was a record 6 nights out in a row which I haven't done in a very long time. Phoenix House Charity event in the Hamptons on Saturday, dinner with friends Sunday, Swan Lake Monday, Luann's CD launch party Tuesday and Cirque du Soleil Wednesday and a wedding Thursday night. Add to that meetings all day and I am literally pooped out! I should be looking forward to going out July 4th weekend and all I want to do is crash in bed and watch TIVO all weekend. Fat chance of that happening. Bobby loves going out and I don't want to ruin his good time so I will suck it up and smile. But all of you know what I REALLY want to do. SHHH. (Boy am I being honest this week!) I want to share a few details from this past weeks festivities. Bobby, Lisa and my niece Joanna and I attended the first performance of Swan Lake at Lincoln Center, Monday night. Irina Dvorovenko and Max Dvorovenko (yes they are married) were supposed to dance together and we were so excited to be there. Sadly, Saturday, Max had to back out due to injuries he has been battling this season. His replacement was wonderful but there is nothing like watching this married couple dance with the passion only a deeply in love couple can dance with. Bravo to Irina for a magnificent performance and I am looking forward to your next performance. Ballet is definitely an acquired taste, but once you are exposed to it, you can't help but fall in love with the art form and crave more. If you have never been, I encourage you to start with The Nutcracker Suite during Christmas and take your children, grandchildren or borrow someone else's! Treat yourself to a performance you will never forget. Promise. Tuesday night, Bobby and I celebrated the release of Luann's second song, Chic C'est La Vie. Kelly, Cindy and I were thrilled to be asked to be a part of the video and we all made it our business to get to The Borgata. When I told Bobby that the blondes were a no show, he jumped in his car at the last minute with his son Jonathan and his friend to come support Luann (and get in a little gambling on the side!) Jersey, her fabulous stylist, had practically no budget but managed to make it look like a big production. He had hair and makeup waiting for us and a roomful of clothes. We all felt like big stars. Fans were there to cheer us on but they had no idea what we were actually doing. We had so much fun. I called Cindy during the day to come surprise Luann even though she couldn't stay for filming. She made the effort and came 4 hours round trip and didn't make the final cut. Not sure why, but she showed up and that's what counts in life. I have had meetings about Skweez Couture everyday this week. I have the "design bug" back and will be coming out with lots of new product lines. My mission statement, " Beauty begins with a great foundation" says it all and now I am building the "house." I can't wait to tell you all the details but until the deals are closed I have to keep my mouth shut as hard as it is to do sometimes! I will probably spend the entire summer designing everything but it will be worth it when we see the fruits of my labor come to life in a store near you. Follow us @skweezcouture and LIKE us on Facebook. You can check out the new website at skweezcouture.com. A few months ago I filmed a TV show called My Favorite Place on HGTV. It will air this Saturday, July 2 at 6PM. I will give you a tour of my apartment with Nicole Gibbons, and Jonathan Adler will give design tips. If you haven't seen enough of me, my guest starring role on USA's White Collar will finally air Tuesday, July 5th. I will also be ringing the bell of NASDAQ to celebrate Tuesday morning's opening. Follow me on Twitter for behind the scenes photos, LIVE from everything do. I would love to hear what you think of my acting so please comment on jillzarin.com (remember...if you have nothing nice to say.....hahaha) Now onto this week's crazy episode.... We begin with Cindy's Vajewel party for Completely Bare. Everyone was having a good time until Simon came over to me while I was sitting with Kelly. He asked me to set a date to have a talk with him. I realize now he was trying to get camera time and make the show about him. If he really wanted to talk with good intentions he would have called me off camera, right? I felt a little on the spot so I said yes. Then Kelly jumped down my throat saying it was inappropriate. Was it? I didn't know what to do so I called Bobby. He is always the voice of reason and gives me the best advice. He said to say "no." Bobby thought it was weird for Simon to want to talk (film) with me alone. Bobby knew he was involved with haters and didn't want to give it any oxygen. Here is the truth. I am a reality star on a TV show. I realize that love, love to hate and even hate is part of the landscape. I signed up for that. But those people are total and complete strangers. Simon and Alex and even Ramona have engaged with these haters who have tried to hurt me and my family outside of the show. I would NEVER follow, talk to, invite to my house, be hosted by or communicate with someone who threatened another cast mate. We need to leave the drama on the show and support each other to the outside world. It was Simon's relationship with these people that prompted Bobby to speak with Simon at Avery's party. Even though Simon promised not to communicate with these people anymore, enough time hadn't passed yet for Bobby to feel comfortable for me to talk to Simon alone. It appears on the show that the only issue was what Simon was tweeting. That is not entirely accurate. Simon has hosted a person who has stalked me at my home and office, in their home for one of the boy's birthday parties. He knew exactly who she was, as he met her through another person who has seriously threatened my family to the point we had to call the police and postal service security. For them to deny it now is simply ridiculous as there is a paper trail a mile long thanks to my cyber assistants. As usual Bobby's instincts were right. My cyber assistants later discovered that Alex actually attended my anti-bullying luncheon the day after she and Simon entertained someone they knew to be my stalker, in their home. Not someone who just stalked me, but was also accused of stalking a former employee of hers. How would you feel? I went over and told Simon how I really felt about it. I was kind and gentle. I was NOT at all aggressive. Simon was not happy to say the least and actually THREATENED ME! He told me to watch out!! Watch out??? What the heck did that mean? Simon is over 6 feet tall and is an imposing figure. Was he going to hit me? What man threatens a woman? You would never see Bobby say that to a woman, ever. What he meant was that he was going to continue to support people that have stalked my family and sent me personal threats through the mail. Cyber-bullying is an overused word that is defined differently by anyone you ask. It means using the Internet to foster hate. Most of last season and during the time we filmed this season, Simon was doing a lot of that. After he was called out on it by Bobby at Avery's party, I was informed that he deleted his most egregious tweets. I will not tolerate bad behavior from children, so why would I tolerate it from grown adults? The fact that we are co-workers makes it so much worse. Simon has crossed the line and Alex can't control him. I'm a little confused about Alex's opinion about what's going on with Simon. First she says if someone is not friends with Simon, she can't be friends with them. Yet when Kelly confronted her about Simon she says they are two separate people and she wants no part of it. Sounds like a contradiction to me, what do you think? She then suggests that Kelly take it up with Simon directly. Why wouldn't Alex film a scene with Simon asking him to respect her cast mates wishes and "back off"? First Sonja had a problem, then I had a problem and now Kelly. Why doesn't Alex deliver "that" message? Alex has alluded in her blog once again that somehow I was responsible for Simon losing his job. Last summer Simon gave a press release stating that he resigned to start his own company. Which is it? I recently met a friend of the owner of the hotel Simon worked for who told me exactly what happened. If Alex wants to continue to blame me, I will share exactly what he told me really happened. I only wish all of us success. I was responsible for getting Alex a couple of appearances after season one when we were friends and I have had a few opportunities since that I could have shared with them if they would have stopped all of this nonsense. It has been in their control. After Alex and I had a "heart to heart" and agreed to start over, I really made an effort to build our friendship. After watching each week's episode I feel I was deceived. Alex stated in her "confessionals" throughout this season that she still didn't trust me and that she never really liked me. I wish she had just been honest with me and said she doesn't want to be friends and I would have respected that. Onto lighter scenes.... As everyone knows I love to decorate and fix little things in my apartment. I have to thank two people. "Patty the Painter" who did an amazing job painting my apartment in Venetian plaster and repairing lots of scratches on the walls and doors. Also, Aline Matsika who made some custom furniture for my bedroom and helped pick out some new fabrics to update the apartment. I am so busy that I sometimes ask professionals for help and I am so glad I did! How much did you love seeing Luann helping to paint my apartment while wearing her Skweez Couture tights? I love days like that when we get together as friends and just enjoy each others company. As I said last week, I wish it was like this with all of the ladies. Bobby and I are getting ready to go to England next week to see our friend, Robbie Williams in concert at Wembley Stadium. I can't bring Ginger so she will stay home with Ally. Ally is working at a local day camp and doesn't want to miss five days of work. We will miss her very much but I have to respect her work ethic. I am so proud of her. I know you will be bombarded with lots of 4th of July recipes, so I will add to the bunch. My friend Pamela Morgan is a foodie and chef and I want to share one of her most recent recipes from her newsletter. Last but not least I will be on my sister Lisa's radio show "Live With Lisa" live at 5:30 EST on Friday. Go to LisaWexler.com and click "Live." Please call in with questions that I know your dying to ask at 203-845-3044. Don't forget to follow me on Facebook and Twitter. See you next week! Have a happy and safe 4th! Love, Jill XO

The 55,000th person to sign up will receive a personal phone call from me! We are closing in on it fast, so sign up now! Hello everyone, I've had an amazingly busy week since we last talked. I had a great time in the Hamptons last weekend where I hosted my friends from the Oprah show. I was so glad I was able to show them a nice time. I hope they enjoyed it. I was also able to play a little tennis with Luann and the girls, which is always fun. Allyson returned from an amazing trip to South Africa. I was so glad to have her home safe and sound. From there I went to Vegas with Bobby,  Allyson and Lisa where we attended a licensing trade show. It was very informative and fun at the same time! The only down side to the trip was the leaving of Allyson's laptop on the plane. I'm appealing to anyone in the Las Vegas area who may work or know somebody who works at the airport to please keep an eye out. I know it's probably long gone, but it doesn't hurt to keep trying. While I was in Vegas I flew to Los Angeles to appear on The Talk. It was an amazing experience and I want to personally thank Sharon Osbourne, Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Holly Robinson Peete, and Lea Remini. They were all a pleasure to meet. Since writing Secrets Of A Jewish mother I have received hundreds and hundreds of questions asking for advice about all kinds of subjects such as parenting and marriage. If you have a question for my mom Gloria, Lisa or myself, please email me at Jill@jillzarin.com and one of us will answer. You can purchase Secrets at  barnesandnoble.com and most other booksellers. If you would like to buy an autographed copy, please visit Zarinfabrics.com. Please let us know who to personalize it to in the comments section of the order. Secrets was just published in Japanese, and the Russian and Chinese editions are coming soon. How proud we are of being published in 3 foreign languages! I can't tell you how exciting it was to see Skweez Couture on the episode! That day my partner  was in town and we were showcasing Skweez for the first time. I thought it would be a great idea to have the girls do a focus group because as I said in the episode, "Skweez is made for women by a woman." Who would have better input? Skweez was in its early stages when we filmed that scene. I can't wait until you see how far it's come since then. If you thought it looked great, now it looks fabulous. Look for it this fall, more details coming soon. Please visit SkweezCouture.com. I was surprised that Alex brought up Sonja's financial issues in the Skweez Couture showroom. When I walked in the discussion was well underway. I was worried that it wasn't coming out clearly so I was trying to help Sonja explain it. I know it may not have seemed that way. I think it was presented to make me look like a busy body, which has always been a running theme for me. I only care what Sonja thinks and she knows I was coming from a good place and only offered to help her anytime she needed it. When we were in Morocco we heard about the bankruptcy but I never said a word. When we came home I called Sonja and with much love, offered her my support and advice as we have always had that kind of relationship. My sister, an attorney, offered to give Sonja as much time as she needed to explain everything to her at no charge since she was being raped financially by teams of lawyers, from her divorce to her lawsuit and now bankruptcy. I asked her how she wanted to handle it on the show and that I would follow her lead. I love how Ramona continues to be insulted when she isn't invited to something but in her real life excludes people all the time with no explanation. She was upset that Cindy didn't invite her to Canyon Ranch and this time to my focus group. Alex is delusional regarding what Ramona does for a living. Since I met Ramona, she has claimed to everyone who will listen that she has been and continues to be the breadwinner of her family. Prior to Housewives she was the "closeout queen." She would buy distressed inventory from manufacturers and resell them to discounters and closeout stores as she showed in an earlier season. Alex is under the impression that Ramona was some kind of designer. Ramona can sell and certainly negotiate money. None of that has anything to do with why she wasn't invited. I lost a Kodak deal worth seven figures because of what Ramona said on the show. They told me such and in no uncertain words. As the old saying goes "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me." Ramona measures her success by how much money she has, and my philosophy couldn't be more different. When Lord & Taylor and Macy's said yes to buying Skweez Couture, it was one of the best feelings you can imagine. I am giving birth to a brand that will change peoples feelings about themselves. My mission statement is "Beauty begins with a great foundation." What you wear under your clothes will set your mood. I was so excited to show the line to Kelly, Luann and Cindy as I know they care about me and support me as I do them. I invited Alex to offer an olive branch but how could she be surprised I didn't invite Ramona? My partner knew our history and insisted she not come near anything for fear she would bad mouth it with no basis. Ramona is just too unpredictable. Maybe I should have told her in advance but she would have either bullied me into inviting her or been pissed I didn't want to, so I didn't say anything. OK, I'm a wimp! Besides, it was Ramona who said in season one, "you can't invite everyone to everything." Speaking of Alex, I must say I was absolutely shocked at how two-faced she was to me in this episode. At that point in time I thought we had buried the hatchet and were in a good place. She was supportive to me in Morocco regarding my talk with Ramona. What changed it? Was she realizing she wasn't getting in enough scenes? It seems to me that she spent the whole episode talking behind people's backs and putting herself in other people's business. This was extremely disappointing as it seems I was the only one that was sincere in the talk we had earlier in the season. When you didn't see any dinner but only coffee at Alex and Luann's meeting you knew it was going to be brief. I noticed there is a reoccurring theme with Alex. Much like when I had the talk with her, she seemed to be reiterating that Luann didn't listen to her. Alex seems to have a problem with thinking that she is not listened to. I think the reason for this is because Alex isn't coming to people with her own issues. She's fighting other people's battles instead. If people have a problem with someone sometimes it's best just to stay out of it and let people settle their own differences. In my opinion Alex is suffering from an identity issue on the show and is trying to find one by becoming a messenger. I think Luann made it very clear what happens to the messenger. Alex needs to realize that's it's not season 3 anymore. The ladies are standing up for themselves and not letting the backstabbing and mean words go by anymore. I've been called out on things plenty of times and I've handled it. Can she? Parts of the episode, I still maintain were like soft porn. I consider myself an aficionado on romance and could write a book with suggestions on how to seduce your man, but some things are just better left to your imagination. I thought Luann and Jacque's reunion was the most romantic of the three scenes because it felt truly authentic. Nothing feels the same as a new love. I thought Ramona's and Alex's sexy moves were overly staged and fake. OK I admit it, I am a bit of a prude when it comes to showing too much on TV.  Also, I always think to myself "what would Allyson say"? I can only imagine that some of the children might be scared to go to school tomorrow because they might get teased. We all know it doesn't take much to give a bully ammunition. I was actually so disturbed by the soft porn nature of it that I warned my fans ahead of time in case they watched the show with under age children. Yes, we got the memo that you love each other to death...can we move on now? I'd like to wish all of the Dad's and special men a very Happy Father's Day this Sunday. If you would like to win one of Bobby's ties and an autograph picture of the two of us, please enter my Father's Day Contest. The deadline for entries is Sunday night. Love, Jill XO

Jill Zarin Episode 8 Extended Blog

I want to start by thanking all of you for your kind support of my step daughter Jennifer Zarin, following last weeks episode. Please "Like" The Birthmark Project on Facebook. She is really connecting to so many of you who have shared your own "Birthmark" stories. After spending a busy week getting Ally ready for her Summer vacation and getting Bobby and I ready to go to the Hamptons, watching myself and the other ladies in Morocco seems like such a long time ago. But I will tell you, it was the "trip of a lifetime" in so many ways. The Riad we stayed in was absolutely fabulous. Kelly was right when she said it was "warm and luminous." I should have realized it was a sign of things to come when the blondes and the brunettes arrived separately. Did you notice the difference in the two arrivals? When Cindy, Luann, Kelly and I arrived, we were happy, excited and extremely impressed with our surroundings. But in watching the blondes arrive all I heard was a lot of criticism and complaining, mainly by Ramona. Alex seemed humiliated by some of the things she said regarding the poverty and the people. I felt so sorry for the driver who had to listen. One wonders where the term " Ugly American" comes from. Why would Ramona think Luann of all people would ever get us a house that wasn't 5 star magnificent? How funny or ridiculous was it (depending upon how you look at it) that Ramona emailed Luann a list of "needs" that included sheets, hand weights and Pinot Grigio? Don't they have wine in Morocco? I am still not sure whose trip it was. It seemed to me Luann did all the planning, at least that is what I saw when we got there, but Ramona has said Sonja planned it too. If so, why complain to Luann? You have Sonja to get your "list" filled. I have hosted more guests than I can count over the last 20 years in my vacation homes and NO ONE ever asked me for 600 count sheets, down pillows and free weights (5 pounds each). Even Andy Cohen couldn't believe the "rider" that Ramona demanded before she would go on the trip. The crew all snuck in bottles of Pinot. I couldn't believe it when I heard it. I knew it wouldn't be long for the first bit of drama and it wasn't. Someone took Cindy's hangers. It may sound funny but Cindy was more angry at the pettiness of it than anything else. But what I truly love about Cindy is how quickly she is to confront such behavior. When she heard the girls talking about her she was on it in a flash. Watching it back, I am still surprised at just how separate the blondes chose to stay on the trip. I felt bad for Luann. She tried so hard to make it a happy, bonding trip for all of us. What I don't understand is that with all of the complaining about what Morocco looked like, why were they so quick to get out of the house? We all waited for them to arrive so we could have lunch together. Sonja told me they were going to get their hair. Why did they lie? If they were going to a famous hotel, why wouldn't they share that with us and invite us too? We wanted to see the hotel also but waited for them to arrive. They drew a line in the sand the minute they got there. This was supposed to be a friends trip to be together. We didn't need to be attached at the hip but it wasn't nice and not a good way to start the trip by separating from the group. The cameras were not allowed at the hotel and they knew it. Production was really angry that they just took a car and left. I would have left earlier to go shopping instead of waiting for them if I had known. We had an incredible time shopping. The clothes, jewelry, everything was so unique. I had told Brad that we were going to be in Morocco and I was excited that he would be there while we were. It was very generous of him to invite us all to a party. I felt bad about what I said. I love Brad but he does exaggerate and I admit it gets to me sometimes. We all wanted a tour and if he just told me he couldn't because it was a bed and breakfast it would have been fine. Instead he said everyone was sleeping. It was no big deal and I adore him. He can't stand Ramona and it was nice of him to let me bring her. He has told me some of the things she has done to him, things would make your skin crawl. The fortune teller was incredible. She told me my mom is always with me and that I had a hard year last year and it would be a better year this year. She said I should keep doing what I am doing and that my weakness is my big heart. I cried. Everyone else (except Ramona) thought she was right on. It was eerie. When she spoke to Ramona, the mood changed immediately. Watch next week to see more on that. Ramona doesn't know anything about Bobby and my business. We have owned all the cars we have. Bobby has had over 10 Ferrari's including the yellow one that was seen on the show a few seasons ago. We have never denied selling our house or lied about renting it back from the owner, which by the way, we sold at the top of the market when we realized that we never use it in the winter. In fact, recently Ramona told me she thought we were so smart and that they should sell their house since they rarely use it in the winter. Ramona has had her house up for sale, although it didn't sell and rents out her house during the summer and stays with different friends. I didn't exaggerate anything and and don't appreciate the dig. Trust me, this is just the beginning of the Moroccan drama. Wait until you see the next two weeks! Until then, have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.  You can find Skweez Couture on Facebook and @SkweezCouture on Twitter. Real Housewives Of New York Episode 5 Blog

I want to begin by thanking all of Ginger's fans for all of your get well wishes. I am pleased to say that Ginger (@realgingerzarin) is feeling much better after her knee surgery. I also want to thank @drcindybressler for taking such good care of her. This is her third surgery and I hope it's her last. Special thanks to Peaceloveworld.com for all of the clothes you sent her. She was the fashion queen in the hospital! I just came back from seeing the filming of one of the last Oprah shows. Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks were the guests. Can it get better than that? A few of the producers invited me and I brought my sister Lisa and my niece Jena. We stayed at the Trump Hotel in a gorgeous two bedroom suite. Bobby and I belong to Exclusive Resorts and this is one of the properties we can stay at. One of the reasons I did the show was to use my fame to help people. I was able to do that this week. One of my fans shared with me that her mom was critically ill and in hospice care. She wanted to meet me in Chicago. I wanted to make that happen. I called Exclusive Resorts to ask if they had any suites available for one night. Without hesitation, they told me they did and would be happy to arrange a 2 bedroom suite for them. They drove 4 hours to Chicago and I checked them in myself. I took them to lunch, then took "mom" for a pedicure for Mother's Day and tucked her into bed that night. I am so happy I was able to surprise her and make her "Queen For The Day." I am so grateful I was able to put a smile on her face. "To those whom much is given, much is expected" and I have dedicated my life to giving back. Australia was the most amazing trip you could ever imagine. The people, the places, were all so wonderful. I have included pictures in this newsletter from our trip. Next time I need to go to Melbourne to meet some of my most loyal fans. You know who you are! We will be back! I promise! Coming back from Australia I felt incredibly refreshed, rejuvenated and truly ready to film this season. I already knew I did not want a repeat of last season, but what I realized while away was that I was the only one that could make sure that didn't happen. I thought about how idle gossip is often taken the wrong way. I am often taken the wrong way, and I dedicated myself to working on being more careful with my words. When you are home or with close friends, people understand you, they "get you," your personality, your sense of humor. They know you did not mean to say anything bad. But when you are dealing with a group of different personalities who are friends, but not your everyday friends, you have to be more courteous of their possible sensitivities. It took me two good seasons and a very difficult one to understand that, but now I do. I spent the rest of the season trying my best to be more sensitive to people's feelings. Did I always succeed? Of course not, but I tried. I also have to remember when I watch the show and "cringe" at some of my scenes, that the show is not to make us "look good." I try to laugh at myself rather than cry sometimes. We sit in the "interview" chair and answer questions for three hours at a time and it sometimes feels an inquisition. I forget that I don't have to answer every question and often tell a story for five minutes to see only three lines on the show and sometimes not in the context in which I said it or meant it. The other thing that was on my mind when I came home was Alex. I very much wanted to make things right with her. I feel like Housewives is summer camp and we are all in a bunk. You have a few BFF's and the rest of the girls "not so much"! You have to try to at least "get along" and that was my goal when I went to Alex's house. We had our ups and downs, as everyone else does on the show, but Alex just wouldn't let it go. She admitted to me that the "Bethenny situation" had spilled over onto her but of course that part was cut out of the show. I tried to listen. I have to say I was hurt when she said behind my back "I don't trust Jill." But I am letting it go since she said it before we made up just as I said "she is a F. B." at the wedding, also before I went to her house. We need a clean slate. Apologies need to be accepted. Why is it everyone else says mean things, apologizes and gets a pass or is forgiven; but with me, my feet are held to the fire? Last season I was surprised that she hurt me the way she did. But in retrospect, I see now that she had a lot of unsettled issues with me. Alex and I are just different people at different places in our lives. We are both good mothers and love our families. I hope our talk meant something and we can all get along again. It was great seeing the other ladies and catching up on their gossip. It's amazing how easily you can get caught up in the drama no matter how hard you try to steer clear. But I suppose that's why Bravo chose this particular group of girls! Each of our scenes are filmed for a minimum of 2-3 hours yet you only see 2-3 minutes if the scene is even shown. I can't tell you how many things we film that you don't see. For example, Cindy and I both went to support Sonja at the softball game. It was a beautiful sunny day and I brought my father with me. I am so disappointed he was cut out of the show. My parents were only in one time this fall and this was one of the few scenes they filmed. We all had so much fun and I even tried to fix Cindy and Sonja up with the fire fighters just for fun. I guess we were all having too much fun and being nice to each other to make final edit. See what I mean? I say this to the viewers who think all we do is fight and gossip every time we get together. We only do that every "OTHER" time we see each other! Just kidding! It was nice that Kelly and Ramona seem to have found a good place with each other. But why did Ramona have to say something cruel about her, again, in her interview? My mother always says, "you become more of who you are when you get older." Ramona has become very mean and bitter this season. I think I know why, but I will leave it up to you to figure out. She attacked Luann about being a "weekend mom." She judged Cindy because Cindy is not married. Then there was the fiasco about the lack of Pinot at Cindy's birthday party. As for me? I am used to it but getting very tired of it. Ramona likes to pick a fight and push people's buttons just for sport. Who does that? I thought the Cindy and Ramona scene was very intense. I felt uncomfortable watching it. I certainly know what it feels like filming a scene like that and it's not very fun. This is a storyline that is going to be big this season. Watch out for this one. I will be in Short Hills, New Jersey and Pittsburgh, PA over the next few weeks with mom and my sister, radio show host, Lisa Wexler with our book Secrets Of A Jewish Mother. Last week we spoke to a sold out audience at the Sandra and Leon Levine Social Hall at Temple Israel in Charlotte, NC and they raised more money than any other year. If you are interested in us coming to your town for a personal appearance, contact us through jillzarin.com Our book Secrets of a Jewish Mother is now available in paperback and has an added chapter on bullying. (You will see why later in the season!) It's a great Mother's Day gift. You can buy it at barnesandnoble.com. If you want an autograph, please contact me through my website at jillzarin.com and I will be happy to send you a book plate. I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from our book. "Finding a friend is finding the best part of yourself and setting it free." Happy Mother's Day, Love, Jill XO

Advice From Jill/The Workplace

Hello everyone. As many of you know one of the things I love to do is offer advice to people. Lately it seems I have been getting a lot of questions regarding the workplace.  I put a few bits of advice together that I hope will help. Going To A Job Interview Never be late. In fact be a little early in case there is paperwork for you to do. Also, never be too early. More than 15 minutes early is sometimes considered awkward. Always dress in business attire. No matter what type of company it is, it's always better to be overdressed for an interview than casual. It is important to make a good impression and look like you are serious about working for the company. Look the interviewer in the eyes when speaking. This shows a sense of honesty and confidence. Have an amazing resume. After you leave, the interviewer is left with your resume. This is his or her reference to you when making their decision later in the day. If your interview went great, your resume must match it. A lazy resume could cost you the job. Be creative and informative. Don't be afraid to give it a personal touch. Another question I receive a lot, is how to deal with stress in the workplace. Here are a few tips. Most importantly, always remember to breathe. It maybe cliche but it works. When you find yourself overwhelmed and stressed, take some deep breaths. It helps to lower your stress level. Create a schedule. If you have several projects going at once, create a time line for when your projects are due. Also, if at all possible, delegate projects to others. You do not have to do everything yourself. Learn to say No. There is nothing wrong with saying no if you have too much on your plate already. Decline that extra project when your boss asks if you can take it on. You'll save yourself from unnecessary stress and your performance on the work you do have will be better. Take lunch. Many think it increases their productivity or shows commitment if they work through lunch. Well, it doesn't. You need to eat something, taking a break and fellowship with your coworkers. This allows you to refocus and get more work done. If you are tired and hungry, you won't be able to think and are less productive. Get out of the office. If stress is getting to, leave the office for a while. Go for a walk, go to the gym or take a nap. Do whatever you need to do to rest your mind and gain some perspective. Once you come back to work to tackle the project, you will be more refreshed and will do a much better job. I hope these ideas are helpful to you. Let me know if you have any other suggestions we should add. Love, Jill XOXO
