Happy Passover and Easter

I love this time of year. Any excuse to celebrate with the family makes me very happy. Ally is home from Spring break and heard from 2 more colleges. She got accepted to both and even received a merit scholarship from one. A few more to go and then she will decide where she will spend the next 4 years.

We leave this week for Israel. It is our first trip. Bobby is staying home while the girls spend some mommy and me time together. I have a very full schedule planned. We have been watching The Ten Commandments since I can remember and now we will actually be there during that time in history. Do you think we will see the red sea part while we are there? ( ha ha). We have ONE book signing scheduled IN ISRAEL APRIL Thursday 8th at 6:30 PM Steimatzky Store, Dizengoff Street 109, Tel Aviv . We are looking for a book publisher in Israel to translate it into Hebrew..so if you know anyone.please email me at jill@jillzarin.com? I will try upload photos from my hotel at night. I am meeting Lisa , my sister, there. She will be doing her radio show www.lisawexler.com from Israel everyday. If you have any suggestions you can post them here.

If you have a favorite PASSOVER MEAL. please share with all of us. We put some of our favorites in “Secrets of a Jewish Mother”. I hope you have placed your preorder so you will be the first to read it! If you want an autographed postcard from Gloria, Lisa and me, email me your receipt from amazon to jill@jillzarin.com.

Love, Jill

    Thelma Ramm’s Charoses – serves 14 – 16
    1 C. Chopped dates – by hand
1 C. Chopped dried apricots – by hand
    1 C. Figs cut-by hand (optional)
    1 C. Almonds
    1 C. Pistachios
    1 C. Pecans
    1 C. Cashews
    1 C. Walnuts
3 jars Passover Apricot preserves (or more)
6 – 8 medium sized, nicely oval shaped Lemons

    Serves 16 (1/2 C per person)

First wash the lemons until they are impeccably clean. We used the rough side of a new sponge. Cut the lemons in half lengthwise and remove all the insides until you have clean, dry, empty shells. Set aside.

Chop or cut the dates and apricots by hand into pea sized pieces. Don’t use the food processor or they will get mushy.

Process the nuts one type at a time until the nuts are about the same size as the cut dates and apricots, or smaller.

Mix first six ingredients and add the preserves with a fork or clean hands (do not process) and adjust for consistency. Should be really sticky. You can make this in advance by storing in the fridge.

Fill each 1/2 lemon shell a few hours before your seder and present one at each place setting. Don’t forget a little bit for the Seder Plate.

Dear Jill, You go girl. You remind a little of Joy Behar. I am sure you have been told that. I am half jewish. My father is jewish. So we don’t practise the faith. Love you the most on housewives. Did’nt like the New York wives but then you changed my mind. Happy Passover to you and the family. Enjoy Israel

    Hi Jill,
Happy Passover! I hope that you get this message and are able to respond. You are my favorite housewife. I think that you are such a true and real person. I wish that I had a friend like you. I am originally from new York and now live in Florida. I am flying up to see you at your book signing on May 9th(soooo excited)! Your website says to reserve seats and that these seats are limited. I called Planet Hollywood and they told me that they are not holding seats. Can you let me know if I missed something? I will be very disappointed if perhaps you are having lunch there(wishful thinking) and I did not have a seat reserved. Thanks and I am always on Team Jill!!!!
    Dina
